Application to be become a “Closed Churchyard” The churchyard is now full and there is no proper room for new burial plots. An application has been submitted to the Ministry of Justice for the churchyard to become a “closed churchyard.” The process will take around 18 months to complete (i.e. by late 2027) The Ministry of Justice has issued a Public Notice which can be found on both the Church and Denby Parish Council Noticeboards. The Public Notice can be viewed below. After the churchyard becomes a “Closed Churchyard,” re-openings of existing burial plots will be allowed (subject to there being sufficient depth); interment of ashes in the Garden of Remembrance will be allowed and the Drury-Lowe Vault will be available to the Dury-Lowe family. The responsibility for maintenance of the churchyard will be passed to Amber Valley Borough Council, although the ownership of the churchyard will remain with the National Church of England.
